3. Personal Data We Collect

  • Identity and contact data, such as your name, company, email address, phone number and other information you provide through forms or correspondence.
  • Technical data, such as IP address, device type, browser, operating system and information generated through cookies or similar technologies.
  • Usage data, such as pages visited, interactions with the website and information about how the website is used.
  • Communication data, such as correspondence, requests and support or sales enquiries.

We obtain personal data directly from you, through your use of the website and its technologies, and through communications relating to our products and services.

4. Purposes and Legal Bases for Processing

We process personal data only where a lawful basis applies. Depending on the interaction, this may include:

  • Providing products, services or information you request and managing related client or supplier relationships, where processing is necessary for a contract or to take steps at your request before entering into a contract.
  • Operating, securing, maintaining and improving the website and our services, where this is necessary for our legitimate interests and those interests are not overridden by your rights and freedoms.
  • Complying with legal, tax, accounting and regulatory obligations, where processing is necessary for compliance with a legal obligation.
  • Using non-essential analytics or advertising technologies on the website, where your consent is required.
  • Sending marketing communications where required consent has been obtained, or where another lawful basis is available under applicable law. You can opt out of marketing communications at any time.

5. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

Our website uses strictly necessary technologies for security, spam protection and consent management. With your prior consent, the website also uses analytics and advertising technologies. Non-essential cookies and similar technologies remain disabled unless and until you consent to the relevant category.

The current cookie scan provided for this policy identified the following cookies or similar browser storage items:

Consent and cookie controls

  • Strictly necessary technologies are active because they are required for security, spam prevention or storing your cookie choices. They do not require consent where the legal exemption applies.
  • Analytics and advertising cookies are only activated after you make an affirmative choice to allow the relevant category.
  • The cookie banner offers a genuine choice to accept or reject non-essential cookies, without pre-selected non-essential categories.
  • You can change or withdraw your consent at any time through the "Cookie Settings" or equivalent control available on the website. Withdrawal does not affect processing that took place before withdrawal.
  • You can also delete or block cookies using your browser settings, although blocking necessary technologies may affect website functionality.
  • The cookie inventory may change when website tools or configurations change. We therefore review the website and update this section when material changes are made.

6. Data Sharing and International Transfers

We do not sell personal data. We may share personal data with service providers that support the website or our business operations, including hosting, security, spam prevention, analytics, consent-management and other IT providers. Based on the technologies currently identified on the website, these providers include Cloudflare, Google and CookieYes where their services are used.

Where a service provider processes personal data on our behalf, we use appropriate contractual and organisational safeguards. If personal data is transferred outside the European Economic Area, we use a lawful transfer mechanism under Chapter V GDPR where required, such as an adequacy decision or the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, together with supplementary measures where appropriate.

7. Data Retention

We retain personal data only for as long as necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, taking into account legal, contractual, tax, accounting, security and dispute-resolution requirements. Indicative retention periods currently applied include:

  • Client communication and project files: up to 3 years after the last contact.
  • Accounting and tax records: up to 7 years, as required under Dutch law.
  • Cookie-related data: as stated in the storage-duration column of the table in Section 5.

These periods are set out in more detail in our internal retention schedule, which is reviewed periodically and updated where processing activities or legal requirements change. Consent records may be retained for an appropriate period so that we can demonstrate and respect your consent choices.

8. Your Rights (Articles 12-22 GDPR)

Subject to the conditions and exceptions in the GDPR, you may have the right to:

  • Access your personal data and receive information about how it is processed.
  • Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete personal data.
  • Request deletion of personal data.
  • Request restriction of processing.
  • Object to processing based on legitimate interests and object at any time to direct marketing.
  • Request data portability where the legal conditions are met.
  • Withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent, without affecting the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal.
  • Lodge a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).

To exercise your rights, contact legal@matresearch.com. We may request information necessary to verify your identity and to handle your request securely.

9. Security Measures

We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures designed to protect personal data against accidental or unlawful destruction, loss, alteration, unauthorised disclosure or access. Measures are selected and reviewed according to the nature of the data, the processing and the relevant risks.

10. Intellectual Property, Website Use and Limitation of Liability

All website materials, including text, graphics, images and software, are protected by applicable intellectual property laws. Unauthorised use, reproduction or distribution is prohibited unless permitted by law or expressly authorised by MAT Research.

The website and its content are provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, MAT Research is not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the website, except where such liability results from intent or gross negligence on the part of MAT Research. Nothing in this Policy limits any liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law, including liability arising from the unlawful processing of personal data.

11. Updates to This Policy

We may update this Policy to reflect changes in law, our services, the website or the technologies we use. The current version will be published on the website with a revised "Last updated" date. Where a change materially affects processing based on consent, we will request new consent where required.

12. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution

This Policy, and any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with it or its subject matter (including non-contractual disputes or claims), is governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Netherlands.

Any dispute that cannot be resolved amicably will be submitted to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent court in Leiden, the Netherlands, without prejudice to any mandatory statutory rights you may have as a consumer to bring proceedings before the courts of your own place of residence.
